SU’s College of Health and Human Services provides professional development for athletic trainers and other credentialed healthcare and wellness providers. 

On September 25, 2022, Dr. Yolanda C. Holme, M.D. offered a one-hour, synchronous, online webinar of the importance of diversity in dermatological care. She brings her expertise to patients throughout the Washington, DC, area, specializing in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Holmes has research and practice experience regarding skin conditions in patients of color. The recording from this webinar is offered in a self-paced online course for others to obtain the information for professional development.

Session objectives:

  • Identify skin findings of concern in sports medicine settings that may be more common or difficult to identify in patients of color.
  • Differentiate between how rashes and inflammation present on patients of color as compared to those of lighter skin. 
  • Identify situations that warrant referral to a dermatologist.
